ExPPect Founder Suz Schrandt had the opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Michael Kanter on this BMJ piece, giving voice to the often unsung role of patients who participate in medical research.  While patient engagement has exploded over the past two decades, placing patients in leadership and partnership roles like never before, those patients who contribute their data, or join clinical trials and other studies, are often left uninformed of research results, and unthanked for their involvement.

  The Learning Ecosystems Accelerator for Patient–Centered, Sustainable Innovation (LEAPS), is a multi-stakeholder creation platform where patients and other experts come together to pioneer solutions for the healthcare problems that most plague us. This Research Brief provides a bird's eye view of the ways RA patients, including ExPPect's founder Suz Schrandt, were involved in LEAPS' work, and a historical and prospective commentary on the critical function of patient engagement.
